What’s your opinion on The Owl House?

opinion on The Owl House, “I’m really enjoying ‘The Owl House,’ even though it’s not my usual pick.

The animation is clean and bright with plenty of eye candy, and the terrible puns in the background are a fun touch.

Eda is a fantastic character—she reminds me of someone we all know. Her interactions with Lilith feel believable within the cartoon world.

The Luz/Amity relationship is being handled sensitively, and it’s great to see the kids acting like real kids rather than mini adults.

Watch all seasons of ‘The Owl House’ on Disney+ Hotstar.”

The series seems to appeal more to the young adult demographic. As Terrace herself noted, ‘The story is serialized (BARELY compared to any average anime, lol), our audience skews older, and that just didn’t fit this one guy’s tastes.’

Most of the main characters in ‘The Owl House’ are canonically queer, which reflects real-life dynamics more accurately than the typical trope of having just one ‘gay best friend’ in a heterosexual friend group. Many queer individuals report that they often ‘flock together’ (Jernigan & Mistree, 2009).

Can kids watch The Owl House?

I’d recommend this show for ages 12 and up. It features characters drinking alcohol, visiting pubs, and encountering situations where they get burnt, cut, and slashed. However, there’s very little blood or gore, keeping it appropriate for its intended young audience.

Terrace first came up with the idea of a girl learning to be a witch in late 2016. Later that year, she began developing the story in earnest after a fellow writer criticized it as ‘boring’ and claimed no one would want to see it.

Feeling ‘artistically and emotionally unfulfilled,’ she began researching influences from her college years. This led her to rediscover the works of artists like Hieronymus Bosch and Remedios Varo, inspiring her to create a show with strong surreal visual elements. Over about two months, Terrace developed a 15-page summary of the story and characters to pitch to various networks.

She pitched the idea to Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon, with Disney eventually picking it up. Terrace admitted that Disney was the only network that allowed her to develop the series in a 22-minute format, while the others were looking for 11-minute comedies. The pilot was developed over six months, from April to September 2017, and a separate animation test was created during this period.

On September 5, 2019, Sarah-Nicole Robles, Wendie Malick, and Alex Hirsch were announced as the main cast voicing Luz, Eda, and King, respectively. Additionally, Tati Gabrielle, Issac Ryan Brown, Mae Whitman, Isabella Rossellini, Matthew Rhys, Eden Riegel, and Parvesh Cheena were also announced to join the cast on the same day.
